Kate Middleton is continuing to take things slowly as she eases back into public life following her recent cancer treatment. The Princess of Wales, 43, did not attend Prince William’s annual charity polo match this year, a tradition she has previously enjoyed supporting.
The event, known as the Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Charity Polo Cup, took place on Friday at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, UK. Prince William, also 43, took part in the match, wearing a blue jersey with the number 4, paired with crisp white trousers and his signature brown riding boots.
While the match is a staple on the royal couple’s summer calendar — and raises funds for a range of charities they support — this year marked Kate’s noticeable absence. The Princess had attended the event in 2023, where she was spotted smiling, laughing, and looking radiant in a blue and white dress as she cheered William on.
But this year tells a different story. The Princess continues to focus on her health after her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Back in March 2024, Kate courageously shared her diagnosis with the world in a personal video message.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she explained.
“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
Since then, she has taken a step back from most royal engagements, including high-profile events like the Royal Family’s Easter celebrations. Her treatment concluded in September 2024, after what she described as an “incredibly tough” period.
Though she made a heartwarming return to public view at Trooping the Colour earlier this summer, Kate has been candid about the ongoing challenges of recovery. Just last week, she admitted that post-treatment life still doesn’t feel completely “normal.” She’s making her way back to official duties gradually, prioritizing both her health and time with her three children.
