King Charles welcomed a distinguished guest to Windsor Castle on Thursday, July 17, marking a notable diplomatic moment that coincided with Queen Camilla’s 78th birthday.
In a royal update shared via the British Royal Family’s official Instagram account, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the 76-year-old monarch received President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives at his royal residence.
“This morning, The President of the Republic of Maldives visited The King at Windsor Castle,” the palace wrote, accompanying a photograph of the two leaders.
In the image, King Charles is seen dressed in a grey suit, a dotted maroon tie, and polished black shoes, smiling warmly as he greeted the visiting president, who wore a formal black suit. The two exchanged handshakes and pleasantries during the official welcome.
President Muizzu’s visit, which began on July 15, forms part of a broader diplomatic mission to the United Kingdom, where he is leading a senior delegation. According to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the visit is intended to “enhance bilateral relations in governance, climate and environmental concerns, as well as promote cooperation in trade, investment, and education.”
The timing of the meeting added a personal note to the day’s proceedings, taking place as Queen Camilla was celebrated with the release of a new official portrait in honour of her birthday. The photo was shared across royal platforms, adding to the day’s significance for royal watchers and diplomats alike.
