King Charles and Queen Camilla extended a grand royal welcome to French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, during their official state visit to the United Kingdom. The visit began in Windsor, where the royals greeted the French couple with all the expected ceremony and pageantry.
However, it wasn’t just the royal traditions catching attention. As King Charles stepped out to meet the Macrons, many noticed his right eye appeared unusually red. The sight of his bloodshot eye quickly sparked curiosity.
A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace quickly addressed the matter, explaining that the King’s red eye was the result of a burst blood vessel. “It appeared overnight,” the Palace confirmed, according to the Daily Express, “and there’s no cause for worry.”
Despite the visible irritation, the King carried out his duties without pause. The formal welcome at Windsor included a carriage procession to the historic Windsor Castle, where the royal and presidential couples arrived in style.
The ceremonial welcome continued with a traditional salute and the playing of both the French and British national anthems. King Charles and President Macron then took time to inspect the Guard of Honour together, reinforcing the diplomatic bond between the two nations.
Following the outdoor proceedings, the guests were taken inside the castle for a formal lunch. The gathering was followed by a private exhibition showcasing historic items that originated in France and are now part of the Royal Collection — a symbolic nod to the deep-rooted cultural ties between the two countries.
Later in the day, the Macrons traveled back to London for additional engagements. Among these was a solemn visit to Westminster Abbey, where they laid a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior — a powerful gesture of remembrance.
President Macron also addressed Parliamentarians in the Royal Gallery and took the opportunity to meet with Members of Parliament and Peers during the visit.
