Queen Camilla has shared a touching new photo of the latest addition to her family—Moley, an adopted Jack Russell Terrier. The image, taken in July by photographer Chris Jackson, shows Her Majesty cradling the beige-and-black pup in the garden of Raymill, her private Wiltshire residence.
The photo was released on Monday to mark her visit to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where Camilla has served as Patron for years. Although Moley didn’t attend the event, the caption on the Royal Family’s official post read: “Whilst Moley was keeping cool at home, he wishes he could have been reunited with some of his old friends.”
Camilla looked visibly joyful in the picture, beaming as Moley posed with ears perked up, seemingly curious about the camera. The moment highlights the Queen’s enduring affection for rescue animals, as she has previously adopted two other dogs—Beth, in August 2011, and Bluebell, in September 2012—from the same shelter.
Sadly, Beth passed away in 2024, a loss that deeply affected both Queen Camilla and King Charles. The cherished pet was honoured with an inscription at Chelsea’s Dog Garden alongside the King’s former dog, Snuff. In a tribute at the time, Buckingham Palace stated: “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.”
The adoption of Moley was formally announced in May, just ahead of Camilla’s appearance at the Dog Garden during the Chelsea Flower Show. At the time, a palace spokesperson said: “Meet mischievous Moley, The Queen’s new much-loved canine companion who was recently adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home where Her Majesty is Patron.”
Alongside sharing the photograph, Queen Camilla also promoted important summer safety tips for pet owners. The guidance included practical advice such as:
“Plan dog walks for cooler hours of the day and take regular breaks in the shade.
Make sure your furry friends have plenty of water available to keep hydrated.
Protect paws from hot surfaces by sticking to grassy or shaded areas.
Find less strenuous ways to keep your pup entertained, such as hiding frozen treats in toys.
Never leave your dog in a hot car, and avoid travelling by car on a warm day.”
Camilla’s dedication to animal welfare continues to shine through her public role, reinforcing her commitment not just to the British Royal Family but to causes close to her heart.
