Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be considering a return to the United Kingdom in the future — not for royal duties, but for the education of their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
According to former royal butler Grant Harrold, who once worked closely with King Charles, the Duke of Sussex is “quite keen” for his children to receive at least part of their schooling in Britain. Speaking to Study Dog, Harrold commented that a UK-based education remains a “very likely and completely possible” option.
“If they have their younger education in America, I’m sure their father will be quite keen to have a bit of a British education. But then it depends on how the relationship is with the rest of the family when the time comes,” he added, alluding to the continued strain between the Sussexes and the wider British Royal Family.
The idea of relocating for their children’s schooling highlights an evolving chapter for the Sussexes, who have built a life in Southern California since stepping down as working royals in 2020. While Harry’s ties to the UK remain deeply rooted, Meghan Markle has previously expressed reservations about raising her children in the royal spotlight.
In an interview with The Cut, Meghan candidly described the challenges of parenting under intense media scrutiny: “If Archie were in school in the UK, I’d never be able to do school pickup and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures. I have a problem with that. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
Concerns over privacy and press intrusion have long shaped the couple’s approach to public life — a key factor in their decision to step back from their senior royal roles.
While no formal plans for relocation have been announced, speculation continues to swirl around the couple’s long-term intentions for Prince Archie, now 5, and Princess Lilibet, aged 3. The prospect of a British education could reignite questions about the family’s future ties to royal traditions and institutions — especially as the children grow older.
