Mike and Zara Tindall Cheer on Queensland in Rugby Decider

Mike and Zara Tindall were spotted soaking up the excitement in Sydney as they attended the State of Origin rugby league decider — and it turns out they weren’t the only royals paying attention.

The couple travelled to Australia for the final match in the three-game series, where Queensland delivered a commanding 24-12 victory over New South Wales. As guests of former Queensland fullback Billy Slater and his wife Nicole Rose, the Tindalls were front and centre for the action at a packed Sydney stadium.

Mike, a former England rugby union star, took to Instagram to share highlights from the electrifying night. “So so so good to be at the ‘Decider’ of #stateoforigin2025,” he wrote. “Incredible atmosphere and fair play to the Maroons after an emotional week being able to put that emotion on the field in a great team performance.”

He also gave a warm shoutout to his hosts, adding: “Thanks to @b1slater and @nicoleroseart for looking after us so well. Was amazing to be in the changing rooms and see everything that makes rugby (both codes) an incredible sport.”

While the Tindalls’ visit created a stir among Aussie rugby fans, it also caught the attention of Princess Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The businessman was among the notable names to ‘like’ Mike’s post, quietly showing his support from afar.

The State of Origin decider wrapped up a fiercely competitive series, with Queensland securing their 25th title after previously forcing a decider with a tight 26-24 win in Perth back on 18 June. Their triumph in Sydney came after dropping the first match 18-6 on 28 May, making the comeback all the more dramatic.

Queensland’s dominance was evident from the outset. Their opening try came courtesy of Xavier Coates, set up after debutant Gehamat Shibasaki took on Zac Lomax and managed a slick offload. The momentum continued with Tom Dearden scoring thanks to a determined play by Robert Toia, who kept the ball in action despite pressure near the sideline.

Harry Grant powered through three defenders for Queensland’s third try, and Valentine Holmes was on point with his kicking, complementing the Maroons’ relentless attack. New South Wales, by contrast, struggled to break through, managing a lone try from Stephen Crichton in the first half.

The Blues did attempt a comeback in the second half. A crucial try-saving tackle from Dearden on Brian To’o kept Queensland in control early on. Crichton later found a gap in the defence, raising hopes for NSW, while Kurt Mann also pressed hard near the Queensland line. But Dearden’s second try late in the match dashed any hope of a turnaround.

To’o added a late try for the Blues, but by then, the crowd knew the outcome was sealed. Queensland’s energy, grit, and cohesive gameplay proved too strong to overcome.
